QUOTE (dornay @ Sep 8 2009, 08:53 AM) I am trying to acquire a method of motivating myself when the results of effort are material but the purpose is not.

well dornay, the connection is simply you need money (whether cash or passive income) to do what you want - this includes helping others!

welcome to planet Earth.

QUOTE (dornay @ Sep 8 2009, 09:16 AM) Can you tell us your experiences with Hoffman?

Intellectually one can have moving insight for naught.

Would sure like to hear what you say.

Take Care

Hi Dornay,

People that have gone through the process with me, had some severe things to deal with in their youth that affected their behavior in a negative way when adult. Hoffman provides ways of dealing with that negative behavior.

My graduation is too recent to let you know from my experience as to how effective it is. But I did make changes and I feel like having the energy to go onto a new path.

My wife took the process earlier, and there are some clear changes with her as well. I heard the same from other people whose spouse went through Hoffman.

The Hoffman people don`t want us to tell you how this is all done other than referring to their website or talking to you if you phone them. It is like giving away the plot and ending of a movie. All I can tell you is that it was a much more intense experience than I ever had on any seminar or course. Here is the link to their website: http://www.hoffmaninstitute.ca/

Hope this helps.

QUOTE (invst4profit @ Sep 8 2009, 10:39 AM) Material gain is the purpose of investing. Making money is what it is about-investment income properties. What you do with it is your choice.

If material gain is not your purpose then investing is not the road for you. Look elsewhere.

Greg,

maybe I am missing something here but material gain does not have to be the "purpose" of investing. Yes, I invest to gain more cash to do with what I chose. It could be buy a house or it could be donate to cancer. To say that you can`t help end cancer by investing is false in my opinion.

As for the vision boards, they can be, as Thomas pointed out, non-material things. Watch http://tonyrobbinstraining.com/320/interview-with-frank-kern-and-john-reese/
http://http://tonyrobbinstraining.com/320/interview-with-frank-kern-and-john-reese/ to get a good idea of what vision and envisioning can do for you. Coming from an athletic background this was something that is very powerful for me. I remember a climbing project I was working on several years ago....I had attempted it several times during the summer always failing at the same point but I remember that my mind was only visioning my failure before each attempt. I spent that entire winter envisioning each successful move. To this day I can still tell you each and every move and what it feels like. I walked up to that climb the next spring, my first day outside in 6 months, no warm up and climbed the hardest thing I had ever climbed to that point. The biggest difference was my mental state. I knew each move and I knew that I would succeed.

I am currently working on a RE flip but in my mind I can`t see its successful outcome yet. There is another investor bidding on the project......I sure hope that he has a successful vision

You are correct I was mistaken in stating material gain was the purpose of investing. Making money is the purpose of investing.

QUOTE (bizaro86 @ Sep 8 2009, 04:07 PM) It seems to me that if someone is looking for material things to ease the pain of dealing with real estate, the easiest course of action might be to quit dealing with real estate and do something else. Ultimately there are many ways to acquire money, and if Real Estate isn`t working for someone to the point that it is ruining their family life, I`d strongly recommend they step back from it.

You can feel the open road on a used/borrowed/rented-for-a-day bike, but each of us only gets one family.

Regards,

Michael

Have you ever seen a hearse pulling a Uhaul trailer???? So much for success huh? How long will you live to reach that personal Belize?

How about taking a short cut?

I have been having a few discussions with people about an alternate lifestyle called fulltime Rving. Put what you have together to recieve an income. Travel and enjoy the freedom. Work part time if you have to even. Stay up north for the summers and go to the deep south for the winters. With many foreclosures down south, many people have turned to this lifestyle not by choice.

What about buying and flipping houses and living in the flip wherever you are? See the sights, do the flip and move on to another project in another location?

It all boils down to what is important to you. The age old question a friend of mine likes to ask... "What do you want?" Answer that and you can put a plan together.

That is a thought from the left corner...

Your words have an effect. Thanks.

There so many scams in the World. The fact that loved ones attend is important.

Hoffman offers no guarantees, warranties or anything. So what`s another few thousand dollar learning experience?

QUOTE (tonypeters @ Sep 8 2009, 01:40 PM) This is indeed an interesting topic and a personal favorite of mine, as I have and continue to realize the awesome power of "visualizing" what it is that we want to achieve in life. Here is a famous quote that I feel is worthy of consideration; "It is wonder to see how, when a man greatly desires something and strongly attaches himself to it in his imagination, he has the impression at every moment that whatever he hears and sees argues in favor of that thing." – Bartolomé de Las Casas (1474 – 1566)

Another famous quote that has, and continues to influence our lives; Whether you think you can or whether you think you can`t, you`re right!"
- Henry Ford

Thank you for taking the time to list the quotes.

QUOTE (koop @ Sep 8 2009, 12:45 PM) For me this isn`t so much about the money, its about what the money will do in my life. I can spend time with my family, spend time at the things I love to do (even get a job doing those things which might not pay well, but it won`t be about the money anymore). I could go to another country and help others or help others here at home. I could give to causes that I feel worthy and not have to worry about how much I will have at the end of the month. Yes there are things I want to buy, a boat so I can enjoy time at the lake with my children, a Harley to travel with my wife and friends. Yes I want nice things, I want to not have to worry about my car breaking and my basement flooding. I don`t want to worry about my family if I get sick, how they will be taken care of when I die (my dad died when he was 54, and worried for my mom like crazy)

You will be far more inclined to be selfish if you don`t have money because you will always be wanting, if you have money and don`t have to worry about where money will come from then your more inclined to give.

This is only about money if you make it about money, for me its about time. I don`t want to spend my time making and worrying about money, I want to invest my time in things that will matter.

Thanks man. I knew many folks that were obsessed with dollars not along the lines you write. You are writing about the things that are important to me also.
