Hi all,

An article from today`s edition of the Province (BC) (Money section). Excerpts:

With their equity investments caught in autumn`s merciless sell-off, a large portion of Canadians are now considering retiring six years later than originally planned, a report from Desjardins Group said yesterday.

Whereas the average Canadian had planned to retire at age 59, that number has now been pushed back to 65, the survey showed. It was based on a study of 2,217 individuals and showed that 42 per cent of Canadians over 40 are thinking about deferring their retirements by 5.9 years.

"The current financial climate is pushing Canadians over 40 to adopt a more cautious approach to retirement planning," said Eric Lemieux, the firm`s vice-president of wealth management.

"The survey reveals that they are ready to compromise in order to save more money for retirement and are more selective when it comes to investing the money they have saved," he said.
