According to a statement released from the Office of the Mayor, Vancouver ` formerly a city with one of Canada`s lowest rental vacancy rates ` approved a record-high 1,097 rental units in 2013, bypassing last year`s record of 1,021 new units.
A Dawson Creek hotel owner wants property owners who rent out "in-suites," duplex owners, and apartment building owners to pay a commercial property tax rate "in an effort to level the playing field between all accommodation providers."
The move was part of an attempt to change how the city regulates property owners who rent rooms.
