Hi Neil;

Let's follow this further. CMHC is government backed, just like, say, OHIP.

Imagine having a child, born with a serious illness and applying for OHIP card.

OHIP comes back and says no. Baby is high risk. Baby doesn't match the program's risk aversion level. "We have analyzed the statistics and it doesn't match our expected profit/loss with premium. Application is denied."

You tell me what you think. 100% its discrimination against students. 100%.

Mike

Hi Mike,

I understand why some see it as discrimination others do not. discrimination is not pure science, it's a relative term not black and white.

it's like arguing if something you did is nice or not. Joe thinks it's nice, Helen thinks it's not and both are right!

personally, I see health care as a basic human right, getting a loan in order to become rich is not!

I'm sure you understand analyzing business models is common/is the norm, analyzing medical expenses and then deciding not to treat a baby based on that is not the norm and not acceptable by society. Therefore, the baby example is not relevant in my opinion. Lastly, ever seen someone demonstrating on the streets because a bank did not approve his $5,000,000 mortgage application? Me neither.

Cheers,

Neil
