So far the most complete resource I've seen is the REIN Landlording Secrets offering. Look at it this way: It's going to run you some $ yes, but the first time you avoid a serious issue it will pay for itself AND save you that time/ stress of learning through mistakes... Learn from other people who have made mistakes, not your own. (but if your own happen learn from those too!!)

There are also lots of tips in the forum here.

The Landlording Secrets kit has been a great training resource for my property management assistant. It is a solid starting point.

One of the best property management books is "How to manage Real Estate Successfully in your spare time" by Albert Lowery. Written in the 1980's and has a lot of great mgt ideas. Have to search online for a copy.

What changes is the local laws,(province) and the new ways to collect rent electronically. People don't change. Bad Tenants continue to not pay rent, move without notice, and create damage. Good tenants do pay rent, move with proper notice and don't damage the property. Same in 1980 as in 2012.
