There`s the pessimist: He sees a half-empty glass. There`s the optimist: He sees a half-full glass. And then there`s the entrepreneur: He sees a half-full glass and the opportunity to fill it up to the top.
"Business owners are naturally optimistic because business requires risk-taking, and if you don`t see a positive outcome to the risk you`re not going to take it," says Perrin Beatty, president and CEO of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce.
These days, though, with small business owners feeling the impact of the downturn, including tight-fisted lenders and weak-kneed consumer confidence cutting away at their revenues, staying true to their entrepreneurial spirit can be a challenge. But it`s a challenge worth winning. A positive outlook can not only take some of the sting out of depressing times, it also increases the odds of surviving and thriving.
