Hi Folks,

I thought i would take the time to post a welcome message and let you all know about me.

I am a UK Citizen currently working in Perth Australia in the Oil and Gas Industry, i am in the process of obtaining Perm residency for Australia.

So a few of you are probably wondering why the hell is he joining REIN Canada? Nice and simple i believe there is real value in Canada versus for example Perth Australia and Canada is where i want to retire.

Townhouses here are 500k+ versus much more realistic figures in say Toronto and surrounding suburbs. (I have family in Milton and visit several times per year and watch the market very closely)

I have an existing portfolio of several properties in the UK, all cash flow positive and i am looking to add some Canadian property to this long term plan especially as the Oz dollar to CAD exchange rate is favourable just now.

I am lucky in that i have a Canadian credit history, bank account and credit card already (I work for a Canadian Oil and Gas Company who have operations in Australia and i have international lines of credit with HSBC) this is building my credit history in the background ready for when i am ready to purchase.

I am starting out with a fresh mind as the Canadian market and tax system in particular will be completely different from what i am used to so i am starting from scratch reading all of Don's books.

Once i am in a position to start building my network i will join REIN as a full member and also look forward to coming over to Toronto to a members meeting or even to ACRE live if the dates fit in with my work commitments.

I am really keen to hear from other overseas investors who have made the leap into the Canadian market and any issues they faced, also happy to hear of any referrals from people who have members in their teams who specialise in assisting overseas investors.

Keen to hear about the way people have set up their structures e.g. corporation etc.

I hope this is posted in the correct section and look forward to a long term successful relationship with both forum and full REIN members going forward.

Damn i would kill for a Double Double and some tim bits right now, no such thing here in Oz ;(

Regards

Welcome to REINation!!! You did a great favor to yourself.

If you are looking for excellent ROIs for your low performing funds while overseas, drop a short note to discuss possibilities.

Looking forward to meeting you sometime.

Hi Scott

We were so close to doing the same thing as you!! But we chose to come to Canada and stay here. Although my wife still wonders about Australia and I just want to visit. We'll have to meetup when we come over - Perth is on the trip list.

As we came over with permanent residency we could start investing straight away so we didn't have any issues with taxes etc.

Learning the local market though has taken some time and I pretty much have it nailed down - I am known as Mr Halifax within REIN circles now!!

Tim's chilli in a bread bowl was a deciding factor in coming here I can tell you!!

If you ever want to chat with a fellow Brit just let me know and I'll give you low down on all I know about REIN and investing in Canada - both of which are fantastic btw!

Thanks for the welcome folks, Rich i have sent you a detailed email and look forward to speaking to you soon via Skype.

I have started using the Scorecards and methodology to review some properties here in Australia and it is amazing how quickly you are able to discount a large number of potentials.

Hi there and welcome!

I am Canadian but my husband is from Perth. We live in Seoul, Korea and invest in Canada. It's a bit harder, but do-able. We just invest as individuals (co-owners) - I don't think there is any advantage in incorporating (but I'm not an accountant).

Feel free to send me a message if you want specific information/advice.
