I've been living happily at my condo for a couple years now. My girlfriend recently moved in, and so I rented an extra parking stall for her. However, when I went to get an additional garage opener, they would not program it saying that there is only one allowed per owned parking space.

The reasoning behind this rule is to increase security in the underground parking. It's often that I see people who are in the same situation as I am now, who leave their car on the ramp, run inside the side door, open the garage door manually, and then run back to their car. This seems very silly, and doesn't do anything to increase underground security as anyone with a door fob can get down into the parking area.

This rule is not mentioned in any of the strata documents I received when I bought my condo.

Does anyone have experience with this? It seems so silly - I'm hoping there is a solution.

Thanks,

Suggest to the condo board they charge a $100 deposit for each remote. They could even make it $200. People would be less likely to lose the remotes and then security wouldn't be an issue.

Do as suggested above. If no results or slow response, go buy the generic one from Home Depot. Generally speaking programming is as easy as holding a button on the overhead unit while holding a button on the remote... I'm guessing you're stealthy enough to get it done...

Thank you both for speedy replies. Sherilynn - That's a great idea, I will bring that up to the board. They aren't very inviting of ideas but certainly worth a try. Kfort - I wish, but it has to be manually programmed by someone with the codes. Will keep you posted ...

So it's not a regular looking overhead unit by say... Craftsman or chamberlain etc? When I dealt with the motherboard on mine I discovered that there are two manufacturers in North America that cover 99% of all retail brands... Fun stuff
