QUOTE (kennicoll @ Aug 19 2008, 08:06 AM) we are looking to place a tenant ourselves. in the past they have all had property management. note on the rental application forms they include drivers licence s.i.n. birthdate bank and bank acct number are these permitted to be asked and are they necessary do you first fil out the rental application forms and if qualified a lease later thanks ken
If a prospective tenant asks why you need their SIN, you don`t. Credit and/or rental forms that ask for a SIN should indicate that this information is optional. Credit checks can be done without it though the credit bureaus like it because it is the only reliable unique ID number for all Canadians. Social Insurance Numbers are only legally required for transactions involving the Federal Government.
