Good afternoon. My son has a 5 bedroom 4 level split in the communtity of Edgemont NW Calgary. Have been trying to rent out 4 of the bedrooms since Oct 1st and have only successfully rented one so far. We are now thinking about advertising as furnished rooms. We have used the Calgary Herald and signs up at U of C, SAIT, and Kijji. Any suggestions??

Try homerent.ca and craigslist. Also, you need to get signs up in the community.
Also, Edgemont is a tough place to rent since it isn`t close to things like major shopping centers, C-train, D, schools etc. Great family community though.

What is he doing about cleaning up and parking for each roomie?
Also keep in mind that if he is advertising it as a student rental these spots fill almost entirely in July/august. very few tenants are shopping for second semester... most trade rooms with someone already in a place that they know through friends.

I would suggest talking to some agencies or English schools downtown. There are lots of foreign students that are always looking from Japan, Korea, China, etc... You have to find out their semester cycles. The only issue I see with your location is the access to the train system as well. Usually these students like to be close to such amenities.
The other suggestion is the foreign workers. There are lots of nannies that would look for a weekend stay. Talk to manufacturing or Meet Cutting companies like Cargill they look for rooms to house their contractors. Another ideal is the B and B stay. I know that there are company or agencies out there that would place migrating employees for a moth or two till they get settled in the city.

Has he checked the `rooms wanted` section on sites and made some calls, or is he expecting people to find him?
