I
just finished replacing the carpet in one of my units with laminate flooring
and it looks fantastic.

Best part is it only
took me about 2 hours to do it. And that includes travel time.

So here is how I managed
to pull it off.

Last week I decided that
the handyman that I was using just wasn't getting it. You see, it's not his
fault. In his business many compete on price alone. And with keeping their
prices low they hope to attract and keep clients like me. Problem is I never
considered the "lowest price" as a top priority. A job well done and
another issue off my list are my top priorities. So I went looking for another
handyman.

I called two trusted
friends asking for recommendations. Jeff
Varco from Cornerstone Select Properties
and Erwin Szeto from Mr. Hamilton were very quick to provide me
with one name each and a brief description of why they trust "their
guy" will do a good job for me. Talked to two guys on the on the phone and
met with one on Monday night. Ryan was available to do the job on Wednesday. At
6 pm on Wednesday he phoned to tell me that the job was done and an email with
the invoice was waiting in my inbox. 5 minutes later I emailed him the payment.
Without
seeing the completed work.

I drove by on Thursday
and the flooring looked fantastic. Cleaning is booked for Friday and showings
start on Saturday. Wait until I tell you how I show my places, but
I'm actually not there. That's coming in one of my next posts.

Some people may think
that trusting people to that extend may border foolishness. But it`s experience
mixed with calculated risk and gut feeling that makes it possible. Plus I
wanted to go to that yoga class and watch a movie with the kids. So the
decision was easy - let the professionals do their work.

I am getting a front and
back door replaced on another unit this Saturday, and no, I will not be there
to "supervise" the work. I figure my time will be better spent
somewhere else.

Trusting friends
and professionals works most of the time. Enough times to make it
worth the risk.
