Toronto Star:
Hard work for tuition tax credit

QUOTE A seasonal tax preparer has scored a victory for her husband and other parents of secondary school students who take advanced courses.

Her family will finally get to claim a post-secondary tuition tax credit for "Grade 9" piano lessons her son took while still in high school in Etobicoke.

Stella Tarkowski challenged Canada Revenue Ageny for denying her husband Marek the tax credit, and a judge of the Tax Court of Canada has now ruled she was right, and tax "experts" were wrong.

Justice Wyman W. Webb ruled "it is the status of the course that is being taken that determines whether or not it is a post-secondary level course and not the status of the individual taking the course;" and "the age of the person ... is not relevant."
