But you also cannot get 5%+ returns reliaby in many cash-like nstruments anymore ! Returns currently are also much lower elsewhere, and the covered call strategy still works, just not as good anymore.

This strategy still makes sense today , three years later. SU is at $32 btw, so making 7%+ in a flat market is doable with covered calls, say by selling the $30 Jan 2014 Call at $3.50
