I am seeking others input into this. Which would be the better fence to put up? This fence would be replacing a currently existing wood one.

Depends on what you are trying to accomplish. Privacy then a wood fence. Maintenance free chain link fence, or the best of both PVC.

Chain link would be less expensive assuming all of the old wood fence is being removed.

If part of the wood fence is salvageable, the posts for example, then there may be less expensive options.

If it's a rental go with chain link as wood fence will be more expensive, more labour intensive and unless it allows you to charge a hire rent no benefit to a rental property.

More than that to consider. What is the fence for? Privacy? Keeping a dog in? What are the fences on the other properties on the block made of? Some of my properties I would go with chain link because of the area, and others are more suited to a wood fence. PVC is very expensive and doesn't hold up well.

I just got an estimate on 110 ft of 4' high chain link to separate my apt bldg parking lot from the one next door with a poor tenant profile and it is 1800 $ not incl taxes installed in an asphalt parking lot. Hope that helps.
