For everyone with illegal / "non-conforming" suites... you do not own an asset you own an unfunded liability. That basement suite is not a long-term investment. It is a short-term cash grab. Aside from the moral recklessness, if you want to represent yourself as a long term investor develop your suites to meet minimum human safety standards.
