Ontario minimum wage hike politics





TORONTO -- There's no great rejoicing over Premier Kathleen Wynne's announcement Thursday that her government would hike the minimum wage 75 cents -- to $11 an hour.








The people who lobbied for the boost say it's too little. They want $14 an hour -- a surefire way to kill the economy and any hope of job creation.

Sales of new homes, condos hit near record lows in 2013





The sale of both new homes and new condos hit their second-lowest levels in a decade in 2013, but that`s partly because launches of new projects also hit unusual lows, according to new figures released Wednesday by market research firm RealNet Canada Inc.






That`s partly because launches of new projects also hit unusual lows because of a `dramatic slowdown` in new condo project launches and challenges finding suburban subdivision sites serviced and ready for new house construction.

Region calls for movement on GO train service





NIAGARA ` In an effort to highlight the importance of having a daily commuter GO train service in Niagara, the region's 12 mayors and Regional Chair have issued a joint statement indication they're united in their all on the Province to get moving on the file.





On Tuesday, the Region issued a statement saying Niagara's top politicians are unanimous in calling for the expansion of the daily service to the peninsula.
